BBC National Orchestra of Wales has announced the details of its 2014-15 season, with Bryn Terfel joining the orchestra for St. David’s Day celebrations in 2015.
The Welsh bass-baritone will be performing with conductor Gareth Jones on St David’s Day 2015 (Sunday 1 March), celebrating Welsh music in the orchestra and chorus’s annual gala held in Cardiff’s St David’s Hall.
Speaking about the celebrations, Terfel said: 'I’m very excited about my performance with BBC NOW. With Gareth Jones on the conductor’s podium, whom I work with regularly, we’re set for a great concert – and I’m looking forward to celebrating all things Welsh with the fantastic musicians of the BBC NOW!'
In addition to the St David’s Day concerts performed all over Wales, the orchestra have also announced a busy season with principal conductor Thomas Søndergard.
Returning for his third season as principal conductor, Søndergard will lead the orchestra in performances of symphonies by Mahler, Silbelius, Bruckner and Shostakovich, as well as introducing the orchestra and chorus’ Voice season and the music of newly appointed Composer-in-Association B Tommy Andersson.
Speaking about the launch, Søndergard said: 'I am very excited to introduce the music of fellow Scandanavian B Tommy Andersson, and with so many artists joining us, including the fantastic Bryn Terfel and Stephen Hough (for Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto), it’s going to be a memorable season of incredible music.'
