16-year-old Andrew Woolcock has been announced as the winner of the BBC Young Musician percussion category final.
Woolcock beat fellow percussionists Tom Pritchard, Joe Parks, Hristiyan Hristov and Matthew Brett to secure a place in the semi-final. He will now go on to compete against pianist Jackie Campbell and saxophonist Jess Gillam, as well as two other unannounced category winners, for the chance to perform in the BBC Young Musician final.
The competition took place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, and was judged by chair of the jury Dobrinka Tabakova alongside Joby Burgess and Simone Rebello.
The brass category final will be broadcast on BBC Four at 7.30pm on 29 April 2016. For more information please go to the BBC Young Musician website. To watch the percussion final on iPlayer, click here.
