The winner of the strings category final of the BBC Young Musician competition 2016 has been announced as 16-year-old Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
The cellist competed against violinists Charlie Lovell-Jones, Louisa Staples and Stephanie Childress, and fellow cellist Joe Pritchard. He will now perform in the semi-final alongside the keyboard category finalist Jackie Campbell, percussion category finalist Andrew Woolcock, brass category finalist Ben Goldscheider and woodwind category finalist Jess Gillam.
The category final took place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, and was judged by Dobrinka Tabakova alongside Julian Lloyd Webber and Thomas Gould.
