The BBC Concert Orchestra has launched a search to find the next generation of composers – with the help of one from the 17th century.
The orchestra has set composers the challenge of rewriting the ‘Rondeau’ from Purcell’s Abdelazer Suite using contemporary elements – from electronic elements to jazz and pop influences.
Up to six pieces will be shortlisted for a workshop at the BBC Maida Vale Studios on 12 January 2013 before a panel of judges including composer Anne Dudley and conductor Charles Hazlewood will choose one or two pieces to be performed by the orchestra at London’s Roundhouse and broadcast live on Radio 3 in March.
The ‘Baroque Remixed’ competition is open to postgraduates and fellows studying composition at a UK institution and the deadline is midnight, Monday 26 November. For more information hear to the BBC Concert Orchestra’s website.
