Kyrie eleison is the first part of the traditional Mass, and has been set to music by many different composers. Though traditionally sung in Greek (as opposed to the other parts, which are in Latin), it will be heard at King Charles's Coronation in Welsh, to music set by Welsh composer Paul Mealor.
The Greek Biblical phrase 'ἐλέησόν με κύριε' means 'have mercy on me, Lord'.
There are five parts to the traditional Mass;
- Kyrie
- Gloria
- Credo
- Sanctus/Benedictus
- Agnus Dei.
Kyrie eleison lyrics
