Welcome to the 2025 BBC Music Magazine Awards.

The nominated recordings for the 2025 Chamber Award are listed below.

The nominees for the 2025 Chamber Award

C Schumann • R Schumann

Works for Oboe and Piano
Nicholas Daniel (oboe), Julius Drake (piano)
Chandos CHAN20295

Reviewed November 2024

Our November review (‘Recording of the Month’) described this as ‘…a recording you’ll want to sit down and savour.’ This gorgeous programme of works by Clara and Robert Schumann for oboe and piano was brought to vivid life thanks to Nicholas Daniel and Julius Drake’s great musicality, born of their long-standing, trusted partnership.

Keel Road

Traditional works, plus works by Turlough O’Carolan, Rune Tonsgard Sørensen and Fredrik Schøyen Sjölin
Danish String Quartet
ECM ECM2785

Reviewed October 2024

This hugely pleasurable album (which our review called ‘a multifaceted diamond’) saw the great Danish String Quartet lead us on a journey on the open seas, taking in the sounds and songs of five northern nations. Is it folk? Is it world music? Is it classical? Does it matter? Poetic and oh-so memorable.

Take 3

Works by Bartók, Poulenc, Schoenfield and Nichifor
Patricia Kopatchinskaja (violin), Reto Bieri (clarinet), Polina Leschenko (piano) et al
Alpha Classics ALPHA772

Reviewed February 2024

Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Reto Bieri and Polina Leschenko put on one hell of a show in this colourful showcase, which earned itself a spot as our ‘Recording of the Month’ in the February issue. ‘The sheer chutzpah of the playing is jaw-dropping,’ said the review of this whimsical, head-turning album.
