Read on for an introduction to the rising star Virginia Bocelli, the youngest member of the prolific and much-loved Bocelli family. Born in 2012, Virginia has already shown that she has her family's musical talents in bucketloads: she has already joined her father Andrea Bocelli on stage for numerous special performances.

Most notable among these was back in 2020 when, at the age of eight, Virginia and Andrea performed a duet of the much-loved song 'Hallelujah' for a Christmas concert - a performance that won the young Virginia widespread admiration for her poise and sweet voice.

Who is Virginia Bocelli?

Virginia Bocelli is an Italian singer and pianist - the youngest child of the tenor and crossover star Andrea Bocelli, and his first child with his second wife, Veronica Berti. She is also half sister to tenor Matteo Bocelli, a rising star of the classical crossover scene, who is fifteen years older than her. On his website, her father refers to Virginia as “the family’s sunshine”.

    How old is Virginia Bocelli?

Virginia Bocelli was born on 21 March 2012, making her 12 years old at the time of writing.

      Where does she live?

Virginia Bocelli lives with her parents, Andrea Bocelli and Veronica Berti, in a villa in Forte dei Marmi,  in the Italian region of Tuscany. Her family also has a home in Miami, Florida.

Although Virginia said that she initially felt nervous at the thought of performing, she received a lot of advice from her brother and father, who taught her how to use her voice.

How did Virginia Bocelli spring to fame?

She debuted with her father in a concert in December 2020, when she was eight years old, singing a duet of Leonard Cohen’s 'Hallelujah' as part of his COVID-19-inspired livestream production Believe. She reprised the duet with her father on the 2023 edition of the TV show Strictly Come Dancing.

Virginia made her recording debut in 2022, with 'A Family Christmas', for which she joined her father and brother Matteo.

She also duetted with her dad, playing Beethoven’s love song ‘Ich Liebe Dich’ on the piano in 2021. Most recently, the pair sang ‘Dare To Be’ - a heart rending duet from the 2024 film Cabrini.

What other hobbies does she have?

Virginia has several hobbies, including modelling and gymnastics. In January 2023 she was a runway model in Monnalisa’s Autumn/Winter show, and in April 2023 she was placed first at the regional gymnastics championship in Tuscany.

What kind of music does she sing?

So far, Virginia Bocelli has mostly sung ballads, combining elements of classical and pop music. But it will be interesting to see where she chooses to go next.

Incidentally, she is more fluent in English than in Italian - though she can switch easily between the two languages. On his website, his father says, “when she was younger, I would try to speak English with her in front of other people , while we were abroad. But she answered in Italian and I asked her why. She said: ‘Dad, it’s because you can’t understand English!’"

Is Virginia Bocelli still performing in 2024?

Yes, she is performing as a special guest in her father’s USA holiday tour, which is currently underway and still has a a date left in Miami (22nd December).

          What are her best recordings?

For obvious reasons, Virginia Bocelli’s discography is not huge yet, but, to get a flavour of her beautiful voice, try A Family Christmas, a seasonal offering from 2022 in which Virginia joined her father and big brother Matteo for a range of carols and festive favourites including 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'.
