Here are the lyrics to the national anthem of Belgium, 'La Brabançonne' (or 'Song of Brabant').
Why is it known as La Brabançonne?
The national anthem of Belgium is known as 'La Brabançonne' in French, as 'De Brabançonne' in Dutch and as 'Das Lied von Brabant' in German. The title refers to the Duchy of Brabant, a state of the Holy Roman Empire which formed the heart of the historic Low Countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands).
What language is it sung in?
The national anthem of Belgium has traditionally been sung in all three of the languages spoken in the country: French, Dutch and German.
Recently, an unofficial short version of the anthem has been adopted for Belgian National Day on 21 July each year. This new version draws on the lyrics from all three languages, a little like of the anthem in all three of Belgium's official languages, in the same way that the Canada national anthem uses a mixture of English and French.
