In our June issue, we explore one of Elgar’s most renowned works, The Enigma Variations, taking each of the characters within it and examining how they shaped both the life of Elgar and the Variations themselves. Also this month, Radio 3’s Kate Molleson sits down with the vibrant soprano Danielle de Niese, ahead of her latest documentary on BBC TV, in which she rediscovers forgotten female composers. Plus, we examine the role of artificial intelligence in music, and whether it threatens the livelihood of living composers. In the fallow year of the legendary music festival, we reflect on the original Glastonbury in 1914. On your cover CD this month, The Enigma Variations and other works by Elgar, performed by the BBC Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestra.
