This year’s BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition has been launched. Announced on Radio 3’s Breakfast this morning, the competition invites composers aged 12 to 18 to submit a piece of music for performance at the 2015 BBC Proms.
Chosen by a panel of judges that will include composers Judith Weir, Anna Meredith and Fraser Trainer, the winners will also have their works broadcast on Radio 3 and receive a BBC commission along with mentoring from a professional composer.
Tansy Davies, clarinettist Mark Simpson and conductor Duncan Ward are all composers who have won or been commended in the Inspire competition in the past. Last year's winners had their works performed at the Proms by the Aurora Orchestra.
To enter this year’s competition, visit the BBC Proms website before 21 May 2015 and download, print and complete an entry form.
The annual composers’ competition, founded in 1998, is part of the wider BBC Proms Inspire Scheme, which aims to nurture and promote young composers through different workshops and commissions. Entries have to be submitted by 21 May 2015.
