BBC Young Musician brass winner announced

French horn player wins category final in Cardiff

Ben Goldscheider has won the BBC Young Musician brass category final.

The French Horn player, 18, beat trombonists Gemma Riley and Sam Dye and trumpeters Zak Eastop and Zoe Perkins. He goes on to the semi-final, where he will be competing against, pianist Jackie Campbell, saxophonist Jess Gillam, percussionist Andrew Woolcock and the yet unannounced winner of the strings final. From there, three will continue on to the BBC Young Musician final.

The competition, which took place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, was judged by a jury of composer Dobrinka Tabakova, trumpet player Philippe Schartz and Sarah Willis, a horn player with the Berlin Philharmonic.
