Dalia Stasevska is to continue in her role as BBC Symphony Orchestra principal guest conductor until September 2027, following the extension of her contract. The Ukrainian-born Finnish conductor was first appointed in 2019 as the youngest person and first woman in the role.
According to a statement:
'The extension further solidifies the celebrated partnership between Stasevska and the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s musicians, and comes in recognition of her exceptional contribution, both in performances and in her support of the artistic direction of programming.'

During her tenure with the BBC Symphony, Stasevska has conducted tours in Japan, Germany and the UK, as well as performances at the Barbican Hall and the BBC Proms, notably conducting the First Night of the Proms in 2023 and the Last Night of the Proms in 2020 to an empty concert hall at the height of the pandemic. In 2024, she released her solo debut album, Dalia’s Mixtape, on Platoon, featuring the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
In May 2020, Stasevska became chief conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra in her native Finland. She was also named Personality of the Year at the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2023.
