Glyndebourne Festival has announced that the last night of its sold-out Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg will be streamed live online at glyndebourne.com and guardian.co.uk on 26 June.
According to the festival this is the first time that a complete opera has been streamed live on the web. David Pickard, general director of Glyndebourne, said in The Guardian: ‘This will take us a step closer to realising our vision to create a digital Glyndebourne that is open to opera lovers at any time, anywhere in the world’.
In another first for the festival, three operas will this year be shown on a big screen at the Science Museum, London: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Mozart’s Don Giovanni (pre-recorded) and Britten’s The Turn of the Screw.
