The BBC Proms 2013 are almost upon us! The First Night of the Proms is on 12 July and includes music by Britten, Rachmaninov, Lutosławski, Vaughan Williams as well as a new piece by Julian Anderson.

But how does the director of the Proms go about deciding on the programme? We asked him that very question…
