The London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Valery Gergiev will be performing an open-air concert in Trafalgar Square this summer.

The concert, to take place on 12 May, will include a performance of Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite and The Rite of Spring, as well as an interpretation of Stravinsky’s Rite by Welsh composer and arranger Gareth Glyn – called The Lite of Spring. Animateur Paul Rissmann will present the event which the LSO hopes will attract first-time concert goers.

The performance marks the launch of a new partnership between the orchestra and BMW called 'BMW LSO Open Air Classics'.

In a statement, Gergiev said ‘I believe it is so important to take music beyond the concert hall. I hope that performing these great works in such an impressive outdoor space will encourage many new people to experience a truly great orchestra.’

The concert will take place on Saturday 12 May at 6.30pm.
