Under Harnoncourt’s exacting direction, the performances are consistently admirable; cultured and brilliant readings of the great Haffner Serenade and Gran Partita juxtapose with slighter offerings including the delectable Serenata notturna, and that most celebrated of all serenades, Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik. Peter Damm plays the solo part in a memorable account of the Posthorn, whilst Thomas Zehetmair is the erudite and dexterous solo violinist in the Haffner.
